Havanex Rabbit Breeding
ARBA Members since 2019
Raising: Havanas, Americans, Mini Lops
How We Started Raising Rabbits
It was 2018 and my oldest daughter was begging to have a rabbit as a pet because it was her favorite animal. We were currently involved in 4-H, so we decided to let her have a dutch rabbit as a 4-H project.
At the county fair that year she showed her rabbit and it recieved a blue ribbon. She was very unhappy about that and decided she wanted to win “Best in Show” the next year. She talked her dad into researching different breeds and started attending ARBA rabbit shows to get more educated.
That fall we brought home black Havanas and some Mini Rexes (Hence “Havanex”). After starting our breeding line that year, my daughter did what she set out to do. She won “Best in Show” in 2019 at the county fair. We went to the state fair and received runner up in her catagory. The rest is history.
We no longer breed mini rexes but have evolved in our breeding to include Mini Lops, and Americans. We attend multiple ARBA sanctioned shows every year.
What is ARBA.
ARBA stands for American Rabbit Breeders Association. It is a national organization that promotes unification within its members with high standards of excellence in specific breeding of rabbits and cavies.

Benefits of Rabbit Meat
Rabbits are more than just cute pets. Their meat offers several nutritional and health benefits:
Nutrient Rich:
High in protein (20-25%)
Low in fat (around 5-7%)
Rich in vitamins B12, niacin, and selenium
Good source of minerals like iron, magnesium, and potassium
Cardiovascular Health:
Low in saturated and cholesterol, making it heart-healthy
Contains polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) which can reduce the risk of heart disease
Digestive Health:
Easy to digest due to its low fat content
High in lysine, an essential amino acid for protein synthesis and digestion
Weight Management:
Low in calories and fat, making it a suitable option for weight loss or maintenance
Sustainable and Ethical:
Rabbits have a short gestation period and require less feed than other livestock, making them a sustainable choice
Considered a humane meat source as rabbits are typically raised in captivity with proper care
Other Benefits:
May support immune function due to its selenium content
May improve bone health due to its high calcium and phosphorus content
It's important to note that the nutritional content of rabbit meat can vary depending on the breed and diet of the rabbit. However, in general, it is a nutritious and healthy meat choice.
Rabbit is a versatile, lean meat that can be prepared in many ways, from slow-cooked stews to crispy fried dishes. Because the meat is so lean, it can become tough if overcooked, so low-and-slow methods are particularly popular.
